Dianna laughed when she didn't get on argument on her assumption for what would happen to her if she were to try ice skating, humming distractedly and she peered cautiously at her feet again, like that would help her stay up. She felt a bit bad that Joan had to wear the crappy rental skates while she got such comfortable roller skates to wear.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Dianna asked out of nowhere. Really, she just enjoyed questions. That was why most of her phone's texts were probably from playing 20 Questions with people. The game never seemed to end after twenty questions, though. She just kept going and going. It was fun to learn about other people, just...not so much fun to admit things about herself.

"Uh.." she had been taken a little off guard with her sudden question of siblings. "Yeah, I've got an older brother and a little sister." She loved both of them dearly, and her brother especially had done her numerous favors that she owed him dearly for. Like when her last girlfriend had asked to meet Joan's parents, she got her brother to say she was his girlfriend opposed to Joan's. Her parents would disown her if they knew she was bisexual.
Joan's feet where definitely sore from these rentals, she wasn't used to them like she was her own skates. She didn't mind it though, it was nothing she couldn't handle for a little while. It was worth getting to skate with someone other than herself though.

Dianna nodded slowly. She had an older brother too and they were quite close. She didn't bother mentioning him, though. He was a sweetheart and she wasn't sure how she would have dealt with other students picking on her when she was younger without him around. He didn't care that their parents were both women either, which was a relief.
Getting a bit braver, she gingerly slipped her arm out of Joan's grasp and attempted to pick up her pace slightly. She wobbled right away for a moment, but recovered quickly and smiled happily to herself. "I'm gonna die," she announced to Joan with a short laugh. "I'm doing too good." Well, she thought she was doing good, considering she had gotten brave enough to not hold onto Joan at the moment.

Joan pursed her lips, smiling encouragingly. She skated to meet Dianna's pace, rolling further ahead some. She turned so she was facing Dianna, adapting quickly to skating backwards. "You're doing good," she praised, knowing it'd make her happy.
She couldn't say the same for herself. One of the rental skate' wheels had began to buckle out of place and rolled off, sending Joan off balance and flat on the ground. She groaned, frustrated and sore now as she clumsily got up, snatching up the dismembered wheel. "What the hell is this?"

Dianna smiled proudly, yelping when Joan fell and, as if she was unnerved by the other girl's fall, thrusted herself at the wall so that she herself didn't lose balance and fall. Hanging onto the wall with a death grip, Dianna slowly turned herself around, observing the wheel before she said anything.
"Are you okay?" The blonde frowned with concern, though it was just a slight fall. She warily eyed the people that skated quickly by her before approaching Joan again, warily keeping her arms slightly out at her sides for balance. "Wanna go exchange them for another pair or something?"

Joan was unphased by the minor fall and had quickly recovered from it. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Are you okay by yourself while I go get some new skates?" she asked while she took a quick look over to the rental area at the front. As long as Dianna stayed where she was she'd be okay, and Joan wouldn't have to look for her once she got back.
She had been a little unnerved by Dianna's yelp of surprise, but Joan wasn't expecting herself to fall either. This only proved further that these skates were awful. Hopefully her new pair wouldn't fall apart.

Dianna frowned at the thought of being left alone on the rink, though still nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine." Hopefully. It's not like I'm gonna fall to my death. She gestured for Joan to go ahead and get new skates, peering around the rink again. From what she could see, Jessalyn must have taken a break or something.
The blonde contemplated skating around to try and pick up speed, but ultimately decided that this was a horrible idea. Not only would she probably fall, but she'd also probably lose Joan in this massive sea of bodies. She'd much rather hang around and make a new friend than have it seem like she had ditched the other girl.

Joan had to hassle with the guy working at the rental register until she finally managed to exchange the broken roller skates. For some reason he had thought she broke them, but at least she managed to get a different pair. She quickly walked back over to a nearby bench and pulled on the crappy skates.
She swiftly skated back over to Dianna, who was patiently waiting for her like she had hoped. "Stupid guy at the desk thought I had broken the skates myself," she explained as she bravely took Dianna's hand and slowly towed her into motion again.

Dianna was daydreaming by the time that Joan came back, which was why she jumped slightly when someone spoke to her. Looking over at Joan, she smiled with delight when she realized that she had been able to exchange the skates. "Well, at least you managed to get new ones," she hummed with approval, steadily skating with Joan and happily squeezed her hand.
"Do you like roller skating?" Dianna asked curiously, then mentally reprimanded herself for such a question. She hadn't really thought it over before she had asked it. "When did you, like...really learn how to roller skate properly?"

Joan gnawed at her lip and felt colour rise in her face at the slight action of Dianna squeezing her hand. "I, uhm..I just come here a lot when I'm bored. After awhile I got the hang of skating on these things and the rest is history. Only took me a few days to learn how to, really." She had a lot of free time on her hands, getting most of her homework done quickly and finding herself with nothing to do most of the time.
She spent a lot of her free time teaching herself how to play the guitar. Her father had bought her an acoustic guitar when she was thirteen, and Joan fell in love musically. She taught herself how to play the guitar, and now loved to write and play music.

Dianna nodded slowly, glancing upwards with thought for a moment before looking at Joan again. "That's cool. I usually go to the park when I'm bored. Or...plays board games," she admitted with a bit of a laugh. She really had no life when her friends weren't around her. "I wish the park was farther from my house, though. I live right next to it. It kinda ruins my thinking time when one-" it was only a split second pause, but it was enough for her to realize that she was about to say 'one of my mothers', "-member of my family just yells out the window at me." She laughed. Admitting that you had parents of the same gender would only make her open for jokes, and she didn't really want that right now.
"What about pets?" Dianna inquired, then seemed to realize that she had asked several questions in the last few minutes. "Sorry, I do ask a lot of questions. Stop answering whenever you want," she laughed it off.

Joan chuckled softly, bringing her attention up to the bright, glittering stage lights surrounding a dazzling disco ball that hung from the ceiling. This place was definitely rocking a Seventies atmosphere and it was wonderful. Even the music they played was from the Seventies; David Bowie, Suzi Quatro, even some Sex Pistols. Joan adored Suzi Quatro's 'The Wild One', "All my life I wanted to be somebody, now here I am! So lemme tell ya what I am! I'm a red-hot fox, I can take the knocks.."
She slowly pulled herself out of her daze, realizing Dianna had asked her a question. "Uh, yeah, I've got..like six remaining fish in a fish tank. That's it though, my mom's allergic to pet hair..." It was a shame, Joan wanted a puppy more than anything. She wanted a big, brute of a dog. One that she could scare the neighbours with.

Dianna nodded slightly. "I've got a snake," she admitted, quite fond of her garden snake named Happi. Well, his name was actually 'Happy Demon', but she called him Happi for short. The name had actually come from a suggestion from her brother and she thought the name was cute, so it stuck. "I used to have a dog. He was really old, though."
The blonde didn't say anything else about her dear dog. He had been so old. She had been raised with the dog almost her whole life and he had passed away only a few weeks ago. She still missed him, but at least he had gone peacefully. It was rather sad that he had died in a room with no one else in it, but had died facing a mirror so that he could keep an eye on her brother while he went. The thought made Dianna turn her head away slightly, trying to distract herself.

Joan frowned a little, "I'm sorry..about your dog. Snakes are pretty cool though!" She smiled slightly at Dianna when she noticed she had turned away. "You're lucky you had a dog though, I've always wanted one. Like, a bulldog or a mastif, something scary."
Joan really wanted to move out though. She hated living with her parents, but she knew they'd never in a million years let her move out. A group of Joan's friends all lived in an apartment together, maybe eleven or twelve of them in this flat they all shared rent on. The rent wasn't expensive per person either, because there were so many people to share it between. Maybe one day she'd run away to her friends and live with them.

Dianna shrugged slightly, forcing her thoughts away from her pet dog. "I'm happy that no one in my family is allergic to pet hair," she smiled, no longer really worrying about falling. She still happily held onto Joan's hand, nearly lacing their fingers together but thought twice about it and settled for absently tapping her thumb against Joan's hand.
Dianna glanced up, distracted by the disco ball, and narrowed her eyes curiously. When her stomach growled slightly at her, she gingerly put her free hand on it, remembering that she had meant to get herself some food before Joan distracted her. Attempting to divert attention away from her empty stomach, she looked at Joan again and thought up another question. Well, it wasn't really a question. "I like your hair." It was a bit off-handed and wasn't exactly what she had meant to say, but it was too late to take it back. "It's different. A nice different. It suits you."
