Dezzy then felt like bursting into tears; conflicting emotions tended to do that to a girl. She curled over a bit, wishing now that she had shared that alcohol with him. She sat up again, and decided something irrational. She wasngoing to conquer her fear of the ocean right here, right now. And, she'd learn how to swim today. Might as well make the day progressive, right.
She stood, letting the waves crash over her feet a few times before she took a few steps forward. Soon, she was taking regular steps, stumbling even, into the ocean. It was up to her knees, then her waist. She didn't even realize that she had even started to cry a little- she was homesick. She missed her dad and brother more than anything. She was.. so sorry she had left them.

Thomas sighed, sitting in the parking lot while he let the alcohol numb his feelings properly. He was so confused by her, he didn't want to leave but he had no choice but to bear the uncomfortable atmosphere if he had stayed. Like she had said herself, there was a million girls out here.
He was about to start his car when he noticed her just sort of standing there letting the waves crash around her while she started out blankly into the water's horizon.

And soon enough, the water was up to her neck. But, she didn't notice how deep she was until she turned around and saw the tide had completely covered the log she was just sitting on. Further up was her towel, which the water was coming dangerously close to as well. She wiped the tears from her eyes, the water from her hands dripping down, and she could taste the salt from the water.
Just as she decided she should try to make her way back, she had shifted to the right just enougu to get caght in an invisible rip tide. She was swiftly carried even deeper in the water, and amongst her kicking and panicky attempt to get free she kicked something sharp enough to cut a gash in her foot. She couldn't swim, she couldn't breathe, and she was sure she was about to be eaten by sharks. Every time her head popped out of the water, she cried for help. Unfortunately she had picked a rather solitary place to set up her stuff.
Oh yeah. She was a goner.

Thomas' eyes widened, what the Hell is she doing?! his alcohol induced warmth quickly faded away as he practically lept out of his car and raced towards the treacherous waters. His other dilemma was more or less, how was he going to save her from drowning? Hopefully he was a strong enough swimmer to be able to at least bring her back to a safe distance from the current.
"Desiree?" he called as he dashed into the water, almost losing to the rip tide that had pulled her under as well once the ocean floor sloped down underneath him. He tried his best to swim as quickly as he could to her, but he couldn't see anyone. "Dezzy? Can you hear me?" He scanned the salty waters for her, catching a glimpse of her being tossed around by the waves. She was farther out even still.

Dezzy was completely submerged in water, but the rip tide had ended. It had pushed her pretty far out from shore, she could tell. Instinctively, she sank to the ocean floor and kicked off as hard as she could, popping out of the water just enough. She waved her arms and legs wildly in an attempt to stay afloat, but ended up sinking again. By this time she was so tired, and the gash on her foot burned like hell, she considered giving up and letting the sharks come and get her.
But she hit the ocean floor once more, and bounded upwards again. Her head popped out long enough to see someone coming to get her, so she frantically waved her arms in the air. She slowly started to sink again because she was only kicking with one foot; the other hurt too bad. Soon, only her arms were out of the water, still waving frantically in hopes the person would see her.

Thomas eventually made it to where Dezzy last was, praying that it wasn't too late. He caught hold over her arm, quickly letting go again and submerging himself under the water enough to take hold of her body. He heaved her up to the surface, almost drowning himself now under the weight of trying to carry another person and swim at the same time.
He wheezed, out of breath when they had made it to the shore again. He carefully set her down on the sand and for the first time he noticed she was bleeding. Something would be done about that once he was sure she was breathing still.

Dezzy gave up kicking once she felt him grab her arm. She was safe now that there was someone else there. She felt herself being pulled to shore again, and avoided dragging her foot along the ground. Her eyes were closed because all she could think about was her foot and the fact that she was wiped out. She coughed a few times, and it became apparent how much water she had swallowed.
Then it occured to her that there was another person there waiting for her to wake up. She had to thank him! Slowly, and while coughing up saltwater (sexy, right?) she opened her eyes, blinking them into focus. She couldn't see anyone the wY her head was turned, so she looked to her left and saw Tom. He had come back? But, why? Still coughing, she managed to choke out, "Ugh, I'm an idiot." She looked up at Tom, who was soaking wet, and managed a small smile. "Thank God for you."

His voice chimed with laughter. "Good god, wh'on earth were y'doing?" he was glad she was safe, but saving a drowning girl from dangerous waters was no where near as attractive as it is portrayed in films. At least she was okay, and he had the feeling of selflessness radiate through his being. "Y'fuckin' heavy, by the way," he grinned.
He really was curious about what she had in her head to go out in the water, clearly not knowing how strong the water was. Maybe for an adrenaline rush, who knows. He was quiet for a moment, not saying a word. "..we should prolly get y'to a hospital or some'fin', y'foot's bleedin' pretty bad, innit?"

Dezzy smiled lazily and sat up. "I don't even know," she groaned, rubbing her neck. She looked over at him. "I was trying to get over my fear or the ocean.." she admitted. "Although, I don't think I went about it right." She let out a breathy laugh. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to... You know. Almost die?"
She examined her foot for the first time. It was definitely bleeding, coloring the sand underneath it bright red. "Ew..." Dezzy said, scrunching up her nose. "Maybe you're right..." She looked up at him with furrowed eyebrows. She regretted being so cold to him earlier. He had saved her life... She owed him, to say the least.

Tom grimanced, "A'right, I'm sick a'lookin' at it, let's go." he said, helping her to her feet. He was unsure why he was still with this girl, as he helped her into his car. Now it was his turn to make sure she was safe and sound. Maybe this was just how it was going to be, they'll look out for each other.
Tom started his car, he figured he probably could've let her sit in the back opposed to passenger, there was twice as much room considering he drove a hearse. The back of his car had yet to get actual seats installed and the floor was currently littered with empty bottles among other trash.

Dezzy thanked him and looked around the back of the car. It was a mess, but she thankgully found a couple of unused napkins that she could use to stop her bleeding. Luckily, the hospital wasn't too far away. Dezzy was starting to doubt that she even needed a doctor. "You know, I have some bandaids at home. I probably don't even need to go to the hospital."
She kept the napkins pressed firmly on her foot, and eventually it numbed out. Those first few moments were excrutiating, what with the water and everything. She was literally rubbing salt in the wound. If she wasn't afraid of oceans before, she was now. She mentally thanked God for Tom, and the fact that the sharks didn't eat her alive.

"If y'sure s'not that bad, I can drive y'home instead," he offered while they idled in the parking lot. Either way she'd have a scar on the bottom of her foot but at least it wouldn't be as noticeable as the ones on his cheeks. He resembled a japanese cartoon character with his sad crystal eyes and the small marks just below them.
He reached over her lap to the glove box. "I might have band-aids in 'ere, actually." He searched around the disorganized compartment until he found a slightly crumpled box. "Here," he said as he handed her the package.

"Thanks," Dezzy said, accepting the box and sloppily covering her foot in bandaids. At least it had stopped bleeding. She sighed, relieved. She looked out the window of the car at the beach. "If you could take me to Rosewood, that would be great." She said. She realized she had left her towel there to get sucked out by he tide. Oh, well. She wasn't going back for it now.
"Oh, Tom?" She said, making an effort to look him in the eye. This wasn't really something she said too often. "Thanks, again. You were a huge help. I definitely owe you. So..." She paused, not really knowing how to finish that sentence. "I guess, if you need anything, let me know." She pressed her lips together in a greatful smile. Just moments ago she had actually believed she was going to die.

He chuckled, "I'd say i'was no problem but the fact I 'ad to swim all the way out there wif' me clothes on was a bit of a nuisance. At least y' a'right though." He pulled out of the parking lot and down the road, drumming his fingers on the wheel as he did so. "You're afraid of water, are you?"
Thomas couldn't pinpoint anything he exactly had a phobia of. He knew he drank too much and slept around more than he should but there was nothing he really felt he needed to get over. Maybe, there was a fear of ending up alone; that no one really likes him enough to decidedly be with him.

Dezzy shook her head. "No, no, definitely not. Just. The ocean." She stared out the window, still able to see the ocean. It was huge. How could she not be afraid of it? "And the deep end." She added quietly. But she wasn't afraid of water, perse. She could take a shower without drowning, thank you very much. It was a combination of how big the ocean was, the creatures that lived there, and her own inability to swim.
Dezzy was so incredibly tired. Wiped out from all that unnecessary excitement. Her eyes started to droop, burning a little from the saltwater. "You could have left me there, if you wanted." She said. "But I'm glad you didn't." She was in the sleepwalk state, almost, where she started to say things that made no real sense to anyone but her. "I had given up anyway."
