if a stupid poem could fix this home i'd read it every day. She noticed the arguing for a while, but every relationships has it's rough patches. Especially being married for fifteen years; you're bound to get on each other's nerves every so often. It was much easier to ignore it, you know? Addressing the problem at such a young age would have left a scar. Though I have no doubts the scar would have been smaller than the one she has now. She put all of her trust into her parents to work it out. Maybe she didn't understand these adult issues as well as she thought she did. The nights they fought she would hideout in her room, distracting herself with history homework on World War II. Facebook wasn't enough of a distraction and music was too much of a distraction. Her homework was a nice balance in between the two. Her nephew would often come in and keep her company- children always had such a knack for sensing tension, but Justin always had a better knack of knowing when someone needed a hug. "Kyle," her mother said blandly, peering through a somewhat wide gap in her doorway. "Get your brother and meet your father and I at the dining room table." Her mother unknowingly choked on the word 'father' and turned away sharply, leaving Kyle with an instant fever, sweaty palms, and the sudden urge to vomit. There was a sound in her mother's voice Kyle had only heard once before, when she had nnounced to the family that Grandpa Jack was dead. Kyle had a feeling, however, that this time nobody had died. Despite the knots in her stomach, Kyle obeyed her mother and gave her older brother the news. She held his hand, which was also a bit clammy, as they nervously made their way to the dining room. They both held the most cheerful faces they could conjure up for the occasion; maybe of they looked happy, the news they were about to recieve would turn out to be happy. But, the logic was all wrong. There was not a thing in the world that could change the news they were about to recieve, excepting maybe a sudden change pf heart from the two adults at the table. "Well, there's no point in dragging it out." Her mother said, her once vibrant blue eyes now a controlled gray. She folded her hands in front of herself. "We're all adults here. We can all handle this." Normally Kyle would have loved to be considered an adult. But, intuition told her that she should beg to be considered a little girl still. She felt her throat tighten into a knot. Her father glanced at her mother and then back down at the table. "Your mother and I are getting a divorce." He said, plain and simple. Brandon's chair scooted back, as if he were about to get up and leave. But Kyle squeezed his hand toghter; there was no way he was leaving her alone with them. Brandon's breath was uneven, but Kyle just stayed as she had been, still trying to look cheerful. But, her stomach got the best of her, and she ran to the bathroom to vomit. At this point, she still had yet to cry. She could safely say it had hit her though- not the reality of the situation, but the fact that he had said the word 'divorce' in context to her mother and him. Brandon's father left the table immediately after Kyle ran off. Brandon glared at him until he was out of his range of vision, when he turned his glare to his mother. For about five minutes he couldn't say a word. The bathroom door opened again and shut, but neother Brandon or his mother noticed. "Why?" Brandon said, leaning back so his arm was stretched over the table, tapping his fingers over the hardwood tabletop. His mom paused, coming to grips with the fact thay Brandon was an adult. For heaven's sake, he had a kid of his own. She blinked a few times and gulped. "Your father... He has, uh, found... Someone else." She managed to choke out, her eyes slowly filling but never overflowing out of fear Brandon would see. "He cheated on you?" Kyle's stomach dropped. Not only were they getting divorced, her father had cheated on her mother. Kyle thought only bastards in movies and politicians cheated- her father was neither of those things. She stood slowly from her place on the floor next to the bathroom and paused, not sure where to go next. She bolted suddenly to her bedroom, turning the lock the second she was within her own boundaries. Brandon stood up from the table and walked around to give his mom a kiss on the head. Then he left her to sit alone at the table, while he rudely bursted into his parent's bedroom. His dad was already packing a suitcase full of his belongings, and Brandon stood there with a wicked smile on his face, shaking his head in disbelief. "Let's talk." He said, giving a shrug and a slight frown. "Man to man. Father to father; not father to son." For ten minutes Kyle didn't hear a thing- silence, except for her own hushed sobs. Then, when she had calmed down a bit, she realized she heard muffled voices, and soon they got louder. So loud that she could kind of make out what they were saying. "-think I want my son around douche bags like you? Honestly, what-" Kyle gulped, but couldn't help trying to stay as still as possible, straining to hear what was going on. Brandon was yelling, where as Kyle would have chosen a more feminine approach to the situation. She wanted to go in, sit on the edge of her father's bed and say, "Daddy? Let's work it out." But Brandon could not hVe been more scared, and he easily turned his fear into anger. When his dad tried to apologize, he shrugged and said, "Don't bother. You don't care about this family, and guess what? We don't give a fuck about you either. So pack your bags a little faster, will ya?" And with that, he slammed the door on his way out. He caught a glimpse of his mother, head in her hands, as he walked past the hall that led to the dining room and over to Kyle's door. He knocked, but Kyle didn't respond. Instead, she rushed over to her vanity to apply any makeup that would make it seek like she hadn't been crying. "Kyle? Let me in." Brandon's voice was still angry, but Kyle ended up letting him in. He bit his lip, even he was trying not to cry. He told her to pack an overnight bag, to which Kyle replied, "Are you serious? We can't just leave mom here." "Fine, stay." Brandon replied. "But I'm taking Justin and going to Krista's. You can stay with them if you want." In no time, Kyle had decided to pack a bag and join Brandon. He was right- they needed time to think and process, all four of them. And, Kyle liked Krista. She always knew how to lighten the mood. As Brandon drove by the park, Kyle asked him to stop. "Can I just... Be alone here for a moment? I'll call you if I decide to go to Krista's, and you can pick me up." Brandon hesitantly agreed, and dropped her off, leaving Kyle alone in the park at seven o'clock at night with her thoughts. She was thankful she had brought a blanket she could curl up with against a tree. Now, all she needed was for reality to hit so she could start getting over it.

ooc/ I'm quite sure this reply is going to be the most piss-worthy one I've ever typed, but you know what? I'm fucking typing it. It was a quiet night, almost to quiet for his taste but... He liked it at least. He'd gotten done with his homework almost the second he had gotten home, and now he had practically nothing to do. To his great boredom he was out of money too, and Falerin wasn't home to lend him any. /Stupid whore./ He thought degradingly. Cadeyrn was slightly enjoying himself, it was nice to not be bothered by somebody. As he started around the trail for a second time, a sensation came over him. /I wanna do a backflip, damnit./ The realization hit him that he hadn't worked his legs in the past few days, he really needed to do that. Well, this tree up here might offer him a good oppritunity. If only he knew who was on the other side of the tree, but it was a bit too late. He ran forwards and kicked it, as hard as he could, then kicked off again. Using the momentum from the first kick to propel him backwards through the air. Now he did something weird, he landed on his hands, doing something like a handstand. He flipped back onto his feet, facing the tree and aiming a kick for a branch. Why was this so fulfilling? The sound of splinterring wood made him feel so accomplished, and it didn't hurt to feel some accomplishment out of training.

Kyle couldn't stop shaking. Somewhere in the past hour and a half of sobbing and coming up with ways to make her family whole again, she had developed a case of shivers. She wasn't cold in her thick, gray hoodie. Her hands just could not sit still. Luckily, she had a bottle of aspirin in her backpack. She took the bottle out and read the label, though it was difficult in the dark. Consult your doctor before consuming. Do not take more than six pills in less than four hours.. Kyle thought for a moment, then shook her head. Don't be a dumbshit. You're too vain to kill yourself. She thought, dry swallowing two pills.
She heard someone walking the trail, but figured if she stayed hidden behind her tree, they wouldn't feel the need to come up to her. The pills had done nothing to help her shaking by the second time she heard the man (she assumed, because of the heavy steps) come around. She stayed still and quiet when she heard him stop and walk towards her direction. She had a sudden bout of paranoia that this was a forty year old pervert who had spotted her in her weakened state and wanted to kidnap & rape her. She felt him kick at the tree she was leaning against, so she jumped out of her spot into the open. She knew she couldn't outrun a man, so she resorted to still crying and saying, "Pease don't hurt me! Just leave me alone, I have pepper spray!" She backed up, and could make out a figure in the darkness, though didn't realize the figure was walking on it's hands.

Cadeyrn honestly didn't expect anyone to come out from behind the tree. Not only that, but the figure he thought he could make out looked familiar. And despite his better judgement he walked forward a little bit, although he was in a defensive stance. His legs stretched shoulder-length apart(which, for him was a long way), his left hand on his right arm, which was pointed outwards. For every step he sidestepped slightly as well, making a circle and closing in on whomever the person was. She was obviously female, not because she was crying, but because of the sound of her voice. And that voice was familiar, yet he couldn't put his finger on it. Soon he was close enough to get a good look at her. Cadeyrn stopped the circling, however didn't move from his stance. "Kyle, is that you?" He asked, slightly nervous, there had to be something wrong with her. And by the sound of it she didn't want any sort of company.

Kyle's breath was uneven, still left over from her own paranoia. Her mouth pressed into a pout; it's what it normally did when she tried really hard to stop crying. "Maybe," she said, adding a sniffle to the end of it. "Who are you?" Her voice cracked, and she felt her face get hot from embarrassment. The environment suddenly felt calm, like whoever was here wasn't going to hurt her. But how can she trust any man when she couldn't even trust her own daddy? Kyle fell back to the ground, sitting cross-legged, with her head in her hands. She hadn't paid much attention to the size of the figure in front of her; if she had, she would have realized that the only person she knew of that size was Cade.
Most kids think it's their fault when their parents get divorced. But every way Kyle saw it, she couldn't hVe done anything wrong. She was always close to her dad, until just recently. It couldn't possibly have been her or Brandon's fault. Kyle chose to blame it on her mom. They used to be in love and so happy, but her mother had to have done somehing to make her dad want to cheat on her. Maybe, mom stopped paying attention to him or something. Whatever it was, Kyle hated her mom for it.

Cadeyrn couldn't hold his stance anymore, he was laughing to hard. 'Maybe' was definitely not the answer he had expected, it caught him off guard, although under normal circumstances he would have held his stance. However he didn't think that Kyle would attack him, even if she didn't recognize him. He was still slightly cautious, scanning the area around him, two teens in the park after dark... Isn't that the beginning of almost every murder story? After looking around once more, he finally returned his gaze to Kyle. Calmly, and slowly he took a couple of steps forward. "Guess." Cadeyrn said with a grin, stopping a few feet in front of her and crouching down, setting his hands on his knees. /So, can you guess or do I need to wheel some bleachers out here and hit my head...?/ He wondered, almost laughing out loud at what he had thought. However he held himself firm, he wasn't going to laugh, not yet anyways.

Kyle didn't look up immediately, but held her head in one hand and picked pieces of grass with another. She suddenly didn't care who it was sitting in front of her. It was just nice to have someone there. And, he obviously knew her, and considering she had never met any rapists that was kind of a good sign. Finally, she looked up. Her eyes were half-bloodshot and swollen, and her hair was kind of tangled in her face. But, once she pushed it back and blinked a few times she could see his face clearly. That nice boy she had met under the bleachers a while ago, Cade. She hadn't seen him in a while, and even though she had only met him once she felt as though if he asked she would tell hm everything that just happened.
Her English teacher hadn't yet crossed her mind. When she discovered that first day of school that the guy she had been praying God would let her see again was also her English teacher, she didn't freak out. Not as badly as most people would have expected. He freaked out pretty badly, and made her promise to keep their relationship secret. And to this day, she had. But right now in the midst of her family crisis, she hadn't thought about who she wanted to be around. Cade seemed to do the trick. "It's Cade, right?" She asked, ensuring she remembered his name correctly. Though how could she forget Hercules-Man over here?

"Yup, and I was starting to think that I might need to wheel some bleachers out here or something. Y'know? Hit my head again and you'll remember me real quick, I'd bet." Cadeyrn joked, smiling slightly now. He was glad that she remembered him, not just because he remembered promising himself that by the end of the year he'd get a date with her. However, right now he didn't think about that. There was something wrong with her. "So, uh- what's up? Is something wrong, you don't look too good..." He couldn't bring himself to say anything else, at the risk of sounding extremely rude. Heck, he'd probably hit a soft spot already, and he was waiting for her to tell him to get out of here and leave her the fuck alone. Looking around the area again he relaxed noticeably, sitting down instead of holding himself in a crouch. If anything DID come around he could handle it, but he doubted anything would happen.

Kyle pouted her lips again, pressing them together so her lower lip curled over a little. "Uhhm," he voice cracked, and she tried to figure out how to tell him. Does she just come out and say, 'My dad is an adulterer'? Or, would he get the hint if she was subtle and just said, 'my parents are splitting up'? Just saying, 'nothing,' was not an option, she had to tell someone! As she contemplated for a few minutes, she closed her eyes. Finally, she settled on, "Family issues."
She sighed, and scanned him for a reaction. He'd probably want to know more. She could tell him the story, but not without crying. She'd replayed it in her head a hundred times now, and always lost it when she thought about the look on her mom's face when she knocked on Kyle's door. Her poor mother. High school breakups were difficult enough, but divorce sounds plain rough. Imagine thinking you were going to grow old with that person. Who would her mom grow old with now? Justin?

"Oh, I see..." Cadeyrn said, hoping she didn't mean what he thought she meant. "Is it bad or just something temporary?" He asked, trying to give her some sympathy. If she meant what he was thinking she meant, she'd definantely need it from someone. When his parents got divorced, he had Falerin there for him. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he looked up to his older brother. And that was the first time he'd ever seen him flip about something, it scared him just thinking about it. Now Cadeyrn had a small frown on his face, he didn't like this subject, nor this conversation. But he had to find a way to make her feel better. Some way to distract her maybe? This was something that he'd have to think about carefully. If he played his cards right he could make her feel better, and he could get a chance to hang out with her for a bit. The idea appealed to him.

Kyle pulled her knees up to her chest. "Uhm," she paused, pressing her mouth down as hard as she could on her knee. She could feel her top teeth digging into her lip, but she just let them until she tasted a little bit of blood. Gross. "My parents just," she frowned, her voice cracking, "they just up and announced their..." She stuttered a little, trying to find the right words. She couldn't bring herself to say divorce. It just seemed like such a dirty word. "Seperation." She settle for that word, as her eyes began to tear up again. Even the word 'Seperation' seemed wrong.
Kyle did a sniffle and wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her sweater. "Sorry," she said, her voice croaky and dry. "You must be totally grossed out by me right now." Her nose was a little drippy from all the crying, but she had hoped the darkness hid it well. She wanted suddenly to check on Brandon and Justin, but she couldn't bring herself to stand. All she could let herself do was leak tears from her eyes.

Cadeyrn's spirit dropped noticeably. Somewhere in the back of his mind he just knew it was coming, he knew that look. The one where part of your family was ripped apart from you, and it created a crack in the family. A crack that either filled itself or grew until it shattered completely. "That's terrible, I'm sorry..." He said, trying not to sound extremely sorry, but trying to let it show. It wouldn't help him to get over-emotional over this. "No, I'm not. I've gone through this too, I-I know how it feels." Cadeyrn said, moving a bit closer to her. He wasn't sure whether or not he should get closer... But she was still crying and he needed to do something. Making a quick decision he reached out with his arm closest to her and put it around her shoulders.

Kyle continued to sob. She couldn't help it- she thought she had rid herself of all of her tears an hour ago, but that was apparently not the case. She was like a broken faucet. She wanted to tell Cade everything, about how she overheard her mom admit that her father was cheating on her. That her daddy left earlier this night, and she wasn't sure when she'd see him next. It had all happened so fast, she was still letting it sink it. And she would be for a while now.
It took her a while to calm down, but miraculously by that time she had managed to rest her head on Cade's shoulder. How this happened was news to Kyle, because she didn't even remember doing it. Under the circumstances, she didn't try to change it but just stayed there. It was comforting. "So, your parents got divorced? Is it awful?" She asked, sniffling.

"I don't know your circumstances, but my family completely separated." Cadeyrn said. "My youngest brother went with my dad to Rose Wood, and we got stuck in Tennessee with my bitchy mom. I'm guessing you're seeing how that worked out now." His voice sounded slightly annoyed, mostly at himself. The night after they left their mother drowned in the pool- she'd been drinking. The thought itself made him frown. " Then right after we left my mom got drunk, slipped by the pool, and drowned." He hung his head slightly, he didn't like talking about it really, but maybe telling her how bad his was might make her feel better. "Besides that bit of tragedy, everything worked out okay. I made some awesome friends and they supported me. As long as you have someone there for you... Everything should work out alright. That's what I believe anyway, and you probably shouldn't trust me because I used to believe in The Tooth Fairy, THOSE BASTARDS LIED." Cadeyrn ended up going off into a random rant, in an attempt to make her laugh. And slightly because he simply needed to distract himself.

Kyle was kind of shocked at first. Was he telling her that her mother would get so drunk that she drowned? Because if so, then Kyle was in more trouble than she realized. But something told her Cade was just trying to make her feel better when he began to talk yell about the tooth fairy. She smiled, but was losing her voice from lack of sleep and couldn't really bring herself to laugh. But, he did make her feel better. If her dad moved all the way to Tennessee, it wouldn't be so bad. Nobody could really stand to think about him right now anyway.
"I'm gonna miss my dad." Kyle said sadly, looking down. "Everyone's mad at him because he cheated on my mom." Kyle knew that wasn't true; he had cheated on all of them. She just couldn't bring herself to admit that she had been cheated on. It never happened before, and when it did happen it was her own father who had broken her heart. Kyle's sympathy for her mother was ever growing, and her sympathy for her father ever-receding.
