Brandon's swim trunks looked like sexy boxer shorts; red with little white hearts all over them. That's what he loved about them, they were funny. Brandon was a class clown at heart, he truly loved to make people laugh. He could tell a lot from a persons laugh. There were people that let out short, blunt laughs- they were impatient. There were people who just snickered quietly- they were self conscious. Then there were the people whose laughs flowed, the ones who smiled widely as they laughed gently. Those laughs were Brandon's favorite, because it showed how comfortable a person could be with themselves.
"I'll go in if you do." Brandon said, running his skinny fingers through the sand. He could see he and this girl becoming friends, despite how young she looked. The thought still made him nervous that she's catch him in his lie, which almost made him want to create an excuse to just get up an leave, but ue was enjoying her company too much. Besides, the air smelled good today. Like a mixture of salt, sourdough, and sand.

Brandon stood up, brushing some sand off of his leg. He nodded seriously. "The Queen of Hearts is my girlfriend." He said, trying not to smile. Brandon had never been the kind of guy who would just sit there and check girls out. He never hi-fived a friend that just got done telling him about his adventures with a girl the night before. He especially never told his friends about his experiences with girls. He was a private, respectful person and he wanted to be viewed as such.
But, even he had to do a double take. There was something very flattering about Hailey's bathingsuit. And although it looked like every other girl's bikini, it looked better on her. Maybe she had just spent a hundred dollars on one of those custom made bathingsuits, but Brandon got the feeling that she could wear anything and still look that good. It was a weird feeling for Brandon; he tried not to look but just sneak glances. He, admittedly, felt bad about looking at her so lustfully. Especially since it wasn't in his character to do so.

Brandon could not easily express how proud of Justin he was; he wanted to put him on a pedestal and show the world what he had made. Of course, he couldn't do that now that he had caught himself up in a rotten lie. Justin picked up a rock that had many different colored layers in it and handed it to the girl, then turned back to the water to pick up other stuff. Justin was rarely shy around other people. The only time he felt shy, was when he was around another little girl about his age. But everybody else just didn't faze him.
Brandon couldn't help but smile. Sometimes, he was embarrassed by how much he cared about Justin. He felt like it was kind of a girly thing to do, but he couldn't help it. At first, he was afraid of having a kid. The thought of cleaning up bodily fluids was just too much for him. But, he realized that it's different when it's your own kid. It's easy to do the things that made him cringe before; the only thing that was difficult was watching him get hurt.

Brandon took the rock and held it in his palm. He gave a nervous laugh. "Ha, yeah. There's just. No one else to take care of him right now. And he's fun to hang with." It wasn't exactly a lie. He really was the only one who could take care of Justin right now. And being around Justin was like doing a really fun project. Everything he did related in some way to how Justin would turn out as an adult- one wrong move could send them both spiraling into disaster.
Brandon didn't like to think about it. He'd rather just do what was instinctual than sit there and plan out his responsibilities. Kyle always told him that he needed to let Justin trip and bleed and scar. She said that Justin needed to eat dirt every once in a while, just to be a kid. He knew she was right, but it was so difficult to let him wander off and do something he knew would hurt him just so he could learn.
"He is a smart kid, though." Brandon added, gladly taking the opportunity to brag about his 'brother'. "He was talking by 8 months. Not intelligibly, of course. But I'd make a bet and say he'll be talking in complete sentences by the time he's one and a half." Brandon raised an eyebrow and pressed his lips together, impressed.

[/i] she told herself in an angry tone. She smiled at Brandon. "Pretty impressive," she noted. "He seems aware of a lot of things. I do have one question, though. What did he use to stick the shells together?" she questioned, still a bit curious about that.[/ul]

Aw, shucks. Brandon had to be careful with his response to this one; the wrong answer could totally give him away. He bit his lip and nodded slowly. "There was no one else to take care of him at home. And we... Both like the beach!" He laughed nervously. The last thing he wanted was to be cast away and have a perfectly potential friendship ruined by his stupid little white lie. Brandon rarely befriended girls. Was it possible he was overthinking this?
He looked down at the rock in his hands. "Oh, yeah." He said, handing it to her. He figured she just thought it looked cool- which it did, but he never considered that she wanted it to remind her of this moment. "I have a whole box full of stuff this kid finds and gives me. Same with my mom amd sister- we won't miss a rock." He flashed a smile- the kind of smile one could tell had been fixed with braces and whitened with bleach. When you live in Rosewood, everyone has that kind of smile.

[/i] she noticed, but it didn't really bother her. "Thats cute," she commented as she turned her head and eyes down to the sand by her feet. She was starting to feel like she was half naked with only her bikini on in front of him.[/ul]

Brandon let out a short, breathy laugh. "I guess. It'll be fun to take him out when he's older and show him." Oh no- did he just sound to fatherly?! "I mean, I'll probably show them to his wife on his wedding day, along with embarrassing pictures and stuff. Because... That's what brother's do." Brandon did mental sigh. Yeah. Nice save, 'tard.
The worst part about being in love is the fact that you can't help but compare everyone else to your so-called soul mate. Every girl Brandon would meet, he would think, Willow's prettier, or Willow's smarter. But Brandon didn't find himself comparing Hailey to Willow; and when he realized it, he tried. But he just couldn't really find something worth comparing.

[/i] she remembered him saying, but his latest statement seemed the most curious out of all, it made her mind thinking of how fatherly he seem towards the little boy. Hailey moved in front of him to catch his attention. Though she was sure he could see over her head, anyway. She looked up, staring past him so it at least looked like she was looking at him, but truth was, she was afraid of loosing her voice like she had before if she looked up at him. "Brandon, this is probably the stupidest and rudest thing I may have said to anyone because of my curiosity, but," she paused and took a moment to breathe and lower her voice. "But...Justin's not your brother, is he?" she asked quietly. [/ul]

Brandon's stomach flopped; it was the same feeling he got when his mom walked in on him stealing halloween candy from the jar. He was caught. He should just admit it and beg for forgiveness. Or, maybe not. Maybe he could play this right. He looked down at her, and as difficult as it was he looked her in the eye. "What? Like. You think he's my cousin or something?" He gave her an incredulous look, even though his heart pounded furiously in his chest.
"Of course he's my brother." He added, still looking down at her. "What are you trying to propose?" He was entirely ready to make her feel bad for seeing right through his lie. The worst part is that he was good at it, and knew exactly what to say. Especially if she continued onward down this path.
